More conflicting news from the Iran conflict; Iran saying the Revolutionary Guard hit two US vessels, the US saying it did not. Yesterday five Iranian crude tankers were hit making the total over the last few days to 10 ships. The reaction in US markets started stock indexes lower, Brent crude price over $100.00 +$2.79 at 8 am ET, Texas Intermediate Crude at 95.58 +$2.58.
The 10 year note early 4.81% +2 bps, testing the key 4.80% technical support. MBS prices began -9 bps.
Weekly MBA mortgage applications last week, -2.7% from the prior week, purchase apps -0.2% after increasing 2.2% the prior week, refinance apps -6.2%.
The DJIA opened -270 after declining 628 yesterday, NASDAQ opened -97, S&P -21. 10 year at 9:30 am 4.80% +1 bps. FNMA 6.0 30 year coupon at 9:30 am -8 bps from yesterday and -19 bps from 9:30 am yesterday.
At 1 pm Treasury will sell $39B of 10 year notes.
Tomorrow and Friday two key inflation releases; tomorrow August PPI (producer prices), Friday August CPI (consumer prices).
