This morning, prior to the 8:30 am ET CPI, crude oil up another $3.00, the 10 year note 4.43% +2 bps.
At 8:30 am April CPI inflation increased more than thought. Overall CPI month/month +0.6% as expected and down from +0.9% in March, year/year overall +3.8% as expected but up from +3.3% in March, the highest in three years. The core, ex food and energy month/month thought to be +0.3%, increased to +0.4% and up from +0.2% in March, year/year estimates were +2.7%, increased 2.8% and up from 2.6% in March. Gasoline prices rose a seasonally adjusted 5.4% in April after a 21% increase in March.
Early this morning the NFIB small business optimism index fell to 95.9 from 95.8 in March.
At 1 pm Treasury will auction $42B of 10 year notes, recent treasury borrowing has been met with tepid demand.
