Recent Monday mornings have been marked with high levels of volatility. That is true this week as well. It’s a reasonable bet that we will hear from the President sometime today about potential negotiations with Iran.
As for US economic data this week, there isn’t much on the schedule; March retail sales on Wednesday (+1.4% from +0.6%, ex transportation sales +1.3% from 0.5%, ex transportation and gas +0.2% from +0.4%); weekly claims on Thursday (210K from 207K) weekly claims have held steady although weekly continuing claims increased last week; Friday final University of Michigan consumer sentiment index (48.0 from 47.5 mid-month).
Today will be driven by comments about the Iran negotiations. Under it all, markets remain optimistic.
