The Weekly MBA mortgage applications report this morning showed a decline from the previous week. Applications fell by 1.2% according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Applications for a mortgage to buy a new home fell by 1.2%. In the meantime, applications for a contract to refinance a mortgage inched higher by 0.9%.
At 9:30 am ET the DJIA opened -64, NASDAQ +174, S&P +21. The 10 year at 9:30 am 4.27% +1 bp. FNMA 6.0 30 year coupon at 9:30 am +4 bps from yesterday’s close and +2 bp from 9:30 am yesterday.
At 10 am July JOLTS job openings was expected to be 7.375 million but declined to 7.181 million. The immediate reaction pushed yields down 2 bps. The employment sector is showing signs of stress as this is the lowest openings since September 2024.
This afternoon at 2 pm the Fed Beige Book, the Fed’s 12 districts provide details in their respective regions.
