Yesterday the 10 year note increased to another new high at 5.24%, MBSs -57 bps. Crude oil started lower today, -$2.00 at 8 am ET.
July Case/Shiller home price index month/month +0.3%, year/year 20 city +2.5%. Its July data, old news but the strongest increase since May 2025 and above expectations of 2.2%.
Two key releases at 10 am. August JOLTS job openings thought to be 7.225 million from 7.335 million in July, declined to 7.079 million.
September consumer confidence index expected at 81.9, fell by 6.7 points to 81.9, down from 88.6 in August. The Present Situation Index—based on consumers’ assessment of current business and labor market conditions—retreated by 7.9 points to 109.3. The Expectations Index—based on consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business, and labor market conditions—fell by 5.9 points to 63.6, its third consecutive monthly decline. The survey period for this month’s preliminary results was September 1-23, which included a federal funds rate hike and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
